Pictures of Quantico

Mommy let me take pictures as we drove around Quantico.

This is where we dropped daddy off.

I think people might live here.

This one is for Uncle Dan.

The town of Quantico. We are passing over train tracks. Uncle Richard would have like to see the train. We could have toured it.

Kirsten

Kirsten is a brave pioneer. When you meet Kirsten your going to see how fun her life was. In Kirsten Learns a Lesson, she has to memorize a poem. She feels scared at first but it turns out alright in the end. In Kirsten's Surprise, she wants to surprise her family just like in Sweden, but how? You will see how she gets their trunk back where most of the supplies are. Now she can surprise them. In Happy Birthday Kirsten, their cat has five kittens, one is a runt. You can see how Kirsten takes care of the runt. In Kirsten Saves the Day, you can see how she finds honey and brings it home. In Changes for Kirsten, you can see how her house burns down and how she finds a lot of mink skin so that her family can have enough money to buy Mary's house. You will see how fun an exciting the books are once you read them.

Dolls at School

Butterfly and I had fun sending our babies to school. While we were in GA a friend of our grammy and granny T gave us a ton of American Girl stuff. Mommy put as much in the car as we could fit plus mommy let us have a few of her dolls to bring back too. Now we have alot of outfits and everything we need to play school.

Sewing

While in GA, I designed some pillows and blankets and a dress for my baby doll. Grammy helped me sew them together.

Here is the finished dress.

Nurse Dragonfly

We set up a hospital in our bedroom. I took dragonfly into the bedroom and dressed her up as a nurse. She looked very cute as a nurse but the dress was too big. I used a hair clip to clip the back.

In Kirsten's Place

It is sad leaving my beloved home in Sweden for a new life in America. The journey was hard. I felt really scared when I was lost. I tried talking to the people but not one listened to me. Eventually I found home where mom, pa, Lars and Peter were waiting for me. In the morning, I went to Marta and asked her if we were traveling together. We were not. Saying goodbye to the ones I love is the hardest thing for me to do. I said goodbye then we hit the road. I looked one last time at Marta. We got on the train. Inside it was steaming hot and hard to breathe. It was even harder to breathe because I was between mom and Peter. The train stopped and we got off for a rest at the house and there was Marta.

Journal of what I thought it would be like to be Kirsten.

Packing for America

Project: Pick 15 things from a list that I would take with me to America and why?

1. Warm Blankets-to keep warm because the winters are cold.

2. Doll- for entertainment because it is fun to play with.

3. Books- the stories make me feel like I am inside the book.

4. Seeds- to plant because I need food to eat.

5. Sewing needles- to make clothing to wear.

6. Family Bible- for devotions.

7. Photo Album- to remind me of my family.

8. Shoes- to keep my feet warm.

9. Fine China- to eat on.

10. Pillow- to sleep on so I don't have to sleep on something hard.

11. Summer hat- to keep the sun out of my face.

12. Fishing pole- to catch fish for pets.

13. Cookbook- to make pastas, salads, drinks and bread.

14. Pot- to cook food inside.

15. Best table cloth- the keep food off the table and make the table clean.

Back to School

I am back to doing school work again and I am having fun. This year I am doing an American Girl study. Right now I am studying Kirsten's time period which is 1854. Kirsten is a pioneer who travels from Sweden to Minnesota. She takes a boat to get to American and a train to get from NY to Chicago.

In Math, I am learning new problems, such as diving by nine and fractions.

I am studying Mandarin. Here is a song from my book.

I am really enjoying learning the language. My neighbor is helping me with it as well. She put together a power point to teach kids about Chinese and let me check it out.

My favorite part about school so far is study about the American Girls.

Chinese class

Last week we went on a field trip to DC to the Freer Museum. We saw Buddhas and copper. Then we went to a restaurant and ate Spicy Chicken, Broccoli and Beef, Steamed rice, Orange rice, and tea. For dessert we had oranges and fortune cookies.

Day 6
Today in Chinese class we had a storyteller for our guest. He told us two stories first in English and next in Mandarin. We didn't do calligraphy today. This week we started clubs. I am in the chopstick dance club. Everyone is learning the chopstick dance so well and so quickly. We dug up soldiers. I dug out part of the head, middle part and toe. The teenagers dug up all of their soldiers. I was amazed. Annabelle is one the people in the chopstick dance and tomorrow is her last day coming to the class.

Chinese Class Day 3

Today, in caligraphy class we got to use ink for the first time. Last time we were using water on a magic paper instead of ink.

Our guest today was a dancer. After all three dances, the dancers let us have a chance to dance. Dancing is fun.

We learned how to use an abacus. We were also given fruit snacks as a treat. In the class meeting today we listen to the legand of the Panda and they took pictures of us. We also watched Big Bird in China.

My favorite thing about today was writing.

Chinese Class Day 2

Today, in Chinese class, I made paper folds. They were fun. These are two of my favorite ones.
The pink one is a snow flake and the blue one is a fancy square. One of my paper folds I cut the wrong way. Its gray and not in this picture.

I got to watch a movie and learned more Chinese words. Xia Xia means Thank you. In the movie, the kids were playing basketball and not speaking English. It was hard to understand but there was a man on the movie who helped us understand.

We had a guest who was a painter. The painter let us have a chance to paint but I wasn't one of the ones who got to paint. I really wanted to but didn't get picked. The painting was a flower or a bird. We saw alot of paintings and some were small table clothes.

We looked at some books about China.

At the class meeting, we got a prize. Mine was a fan and it has a really strong perfume smell. It is the one in this picture. It is a wood fan. Mommy thinks it looks really pretty.
